Spark an Adventure at Colchuck Lake

Enjoy the Enchantments at Colchuck Lake

Washington State is known in the outdoors community for The Enchantments. It’s a region within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of our Cascade Mountain Range. At an elevation of 4,500 feet, it’s quite the trek but worth it to see the over 700 alpine lakes and ponds surrounding the area. One of the most popular lakes in The Enchantments is Colchuck Lake.

We’ve kept this location on our Spark an Adventure list for years. Vibrant teal waters, snowcapped mountain peaks and views for days are just a few reasons Colchuck Lake is a must see if you’re in Washington State. Keep reading for our latest adventure and we have a hunch you’ll want to hit this trail next.

What to Expect on the Trail

The trail to Colchuck Lake is a beast. It’s allegedly an eight mile roundtrip hike but our friend Kate’s pedometer tracked ten. You’ll gain over 2200 feet of elevation, with the last half mile an absolute butt burner. Definitely pack bandages because if you’re like us, you might get a blister or two. We also battled massive mosquitos which ate through our clothes and bug spray.

Despite its difficulty, Colchuck Lake is worth every blister and bug bite for the sheer beauty. Expect to see lots of wildlife, mountain streams and geology that rocks. We celebrated our hike to the top with Clean Green Certified pre-rolls to match the green alpine water. While summer is over, it’s still Powederhound season so we sparked up this farm favorite.

Our Favorite Strains for Colchuck Lake

With ten miles on a trail, we can’t pack just one strain. As noted above, we always bring Powderhound to spark an adventure. This strain is a full-bodied smoke with aromas of citrus and pine, but it’s the effects we notice most. This uplifting and motivational strain is a Jack Herrer cross which has us powering up and down mountains from summer through spring.

Dead zone? Don’t sweat it. We’ve got the wifi — WiFi OG. Another legacy farm strain, it’s a cross between The White and Fire OG. It’s an earthy, sour aroma but another great strain for stimulating and euphoric highs. We love to get out of cell range, but are always plugged in thanks to WiFi OG.

What to Remember When You Spark an Adventure

We say this with every blog but it’s worth repeating. When you spark an adventure, please remember to leave no trace. Always pack out what you pack in. Never, under any circumstances, leave a burning bowl or roach in the forest. Our state battles enough fires. Let’s do our part to prevent them.

Now that we’ve shared the “hiking don’ts” to remember, here’s a few do’s. Remember to have fun. Breathe in that fresh mountain air. Know your photos will never turn out as stunning as the actual scenery. Lastly, remember to pack a lighter, because there’s nothing worse than getting to your final destination without a way to spark your adventure!
